Ayurvedic Health SpaModern Spas invoke the image of luxury and soaking in a 'spa' tub with beauty treatments. However, traditional natural spas have been around for thousands of years and were used for healing arthritis, skin diseases and other health related problems by ancient medical practitioners in India, Romans and even by Maori tribes of New Zealand.
Ayurvedic Health Spas have gained popularity and remain a magnetic source for people looking for alternative treatments for chronic pains.
Many Ayurvedic Spas offer Ayurvedic massages called 'Abhyanga' or special herbal oil massages. The body is massaged using long, smooth strokes from top to bottom and making a figure eight. Unlike other massages, Ayurvedic massage starts from the head, neck, and back while the patient is in a sitting position and progresses with the patient lying on her back and finally her stomach. The whole treatment can take from 45 minutes to an hour. An assistant is present, ensuring that the herbal oil is kept warm at a specific temperature at all times. The herbal oil concoction is meant for relaxation, treating skin diseases, and arthritis, among other ailments. There are two massage therapists working on you at the same time who make sure that circulation of the blood is increased. The increased blood flow to the brain and is believed to help create focus and enhance memory.
Treatments also include Circulation Therapy, and Steam Applications, as well as aroma and sound therapies. There are also programs of light exercise and yoga. Ample vegetarian meals based on traditional Indian cuisine are served. Ayurvedic spa treatments usually include a combination of Ayurvedic herbs and tonics, which are typically applied externally to the body. While Ayurvedic treatments may be infused in teas or capsules, it is always best to check with your personal physician before ingesting supplement.
Another popular treatment is Shirodhara. In this spa treatment, warm herbal Ayurvedic oils are applied in a slow, steady stream on the "third eye," or center of the forehead, while the therapist performs Ayurvedic massage of the scalp, hands, and feet. The result is an intense calm over the entire body.
Special Manicures, pedicures and facials are also offerred as part of holistic Ayurvedic treatments, by infusing special herbal scrubs and by using East Indian massage techniques.
There are different types of treatments that are available in the form of Ayurvedic Spas. Whether you are just looking for a short break of relaxation or a medicated healing massage and holistic therapy, Ayurvedic Spas provide all that and more. |
